SPEEDIE: This place looks like a standard chicken shop. No glitz or glamour. We could see from the outside that it was busy. We looked at the menu and you basically choose a portion size of wings which comes with fries. There is a US portion which you get 11 wings + fries for £10 and a UK portion which is 6 wings + fries for £7. In both cases that’s a bargain in my eyes. Another thing they do is, if you don’t want fries they give you an extra 3 wings!!
There are 4 types of wings to choose from, which are: Buffalo, Sticky BBQ, Jerk Twist and Hot Chilli.
But first I needed to ask that all important question… “Waiter!! Can I mix the flavours?!?!”, the swift reply “Yes you can but only in the US option and 2 flavours maximum” sold it for me. “Boss, let’s get straight down to business… can I order please?!” Tongo
I opted for the Sticky BBQ and the Buffalo, no fries so I could get the extra wings. I definitely weren’t ordering the Hot Chilli Wings and I knew I was gonna steal some of Tongo’s Jerk Twist wings. Haha
The Buffalo wings were as expected. Swimming in that bright orange tangy sauce. Buffalo wings aren’t my favourite and that was clear after I ate my third one. The sauce, the flavour, it’s just too much. 3 is my max. They’re just sickening after that. Like a fool I continued and ate another 3. Hope I don’t regret that in the morning.
Next up were the BBQ wings. These were delicious. Extremely messy but worth it. The chicken was cooked properly, nice and hot and the sweet bbq taste made you want more.
Finally, the stolen Jerk Twist wings. These were better than expected. You could taste the jerk seasoning and it has a hint of lemon as well. These were my favourites. I could of eaten another portion if I hadn’t of gone for the buffalo wings. If I’m in the area again I’m definitely coming back.
TONGO: I looked at the menu and immediately knew I wanted only the Sticky BBQ or the Jerk Twist wings in a US portion as I must be the only person I know that hates Buffalo (I just don’t get the hype) and I don’t do chilli. But first I needed to ask that all important question… “Waiter!! Can I mix the flavours?!?!”, the swift reply “Yes you can but only in the US option and 2 flavours maximum” sold it for me. “Boss, let’s get straight down to business… can I order please?!” A US portion with a mix of the Sticky BBQ and the Jerk Twist wings for me, obviously.
Here I have to interject and clarify a few things…
Firstly, Speedie is selling himself short and definitely isn’t a wing thief! Secondly, all credit to him because, at this point, he had the brilliant idea of ordering his choice (buffalo and sticky wings) with fries, and told me to order mine without fries so we got extra wings of the flavours we both preferred, instead of extra Buffalo which I hate and and I still got my fries. #genius
The food arrived, and noticeably the wings were a good size even though they only give you the drum or the flat pieces. Jerk Twist first… flavoursome! They tasted like when you season your chicken ready to oven cook and add some jerk seasoning to give it a kick. It worked well… a tasty wing that aptly fits the name given.
The Sticky BBQ were a scrumptious offering. Sweet, smoky, sticky and smothered in sauce these wings are sensational! Make no mistake, if you’re not careful you’re going to get your hands, mouth, face and possibly your clothes dirty when eating these but who cares, small sacrifices and all that! These must be the reason this place has the name Sticky Wings!
